Thong Nai Pan travel guide for Koh Phangan Thailand

The scenic twin bays of Thong Nai Pan Noi and Thong Nai Pan Yai are the most popular beaches in the eastern side of Koh Phangan. Both are true images of paradise with curved white sand coves covered in rich tropical jungle and surrounded by mountains.

Visitors can swim at both these beaches all year round, even in low tide, while there are good waves for body surfing. Those that get up early (or stay up very late) will be treated to spectacular sunrises, and both Noi and Yai have a smattering of bohemian bars and restaurants.

Thong Nai Pan guide - gorgeous twin bays of paradise

Thong Nai Pan Yai is the larger of the two (yai means ‘big’ in Thai) with the best selection of accommodation. There are limestone karsts popular with experienced rock climbers here, and lots of hiking trails for experiencing the dense rainforest.

When you arrive at the ferry pier in Thongsala or Haad Rin there will be shared taxis going to Thong Nai Pan Noi and Yai, for 200 baht per person. Private taxis cost around 1,000 baht if you want to go at a time when there are fewer people waiting. Taxis leave Thong Nai Pan Noi and Yai at 10:00 every morning and go to Thongsala. (This journey usually costs 150 baht).

Star Huts also do taxi services at 14:00 and 16:00. You can also get to the beaches on long tail taxi boats or on the Express boat which starts in Maenam in Koh Samui and goes via Haad Rin – weather and waves permitting.
